Tap water is being tested as a way to clean out and heal foot wounds that are common in diabetes.Researchers say that when electricity is passed through tap water, it turns it into a cheap antiseptic solution that cleans out dead tissue, bacteria and debris that can hinder the wound healing process.

This ‘electrolysed’ water is being tested in a trial run by NHS Lanarkshire of 200 patients with diabetes.Around four million people are expected to have type 2 diabetes within a decade.
