Everyday Problems You Can Solve Using Apple Cider Vinegar

By | July 18, 2016

1 Offensive Odors

Mix equal parts apple cider vinegar and water in a spray bottle to neutralize unpleasant smells in your home. Because ACV has antibacterial properties, this solution can also be used as a mild cleaning agent on sinks and tile countertops.

For people with mild heartburn, a teaspoon of ACV diluted in water may keep the burn at bay. Katie of Wellness Mama says it’s worked for her reflux, claiming the vinegar “mimics the acidic environment of the stomach and helps food break down.” Whatever you do, don’t drink ACV straight: The acidity could wear away at your tooth enamel or harm your esophagus.

3 Dirty Produce

An apple cider vinegar solution can remove bacteria and pesticides on fruits and vegetables. Add one part apple cider vinegar to eight parts water in a spray bottle and douse food. Let the solution sit for 3-5 minutes before rinsing produce with cool water.

4 Tangled Hair

Some bloggers report using the vinegar to help detangle hair. About.com’s chemistry expert, Anne Marie Helmenstine, Ph.D., recommends making your own rinse by diluting 2 tablespoons of ACV in 20 ounces of water.

5 Shower Scum

Fight mildew with a spray bottle filled with equal parts ACV and water. For tougher cases, pour it on undiluted. You can add a few drops of essential oils for a better scent.
